Some exclusions exist in extensions for Inkscape to give you engraving font capability (same as writing font) but they are overall very ugly fonts.
This means outside of the design space app, you are not really able to download single stroke writing fonts (from a traditional font site, for example).
Cricut gets around this within their own program because they are able to display different information (display a traditional enclosed vector font, albeit a very narrow one) from what they send the machine (a single stroke information) Single stroke vectors make writing "fonts", but single (non enclosed) strokes are not supported by font file formats, and would not be visible in text editing programs. Information on fonts is stored as vectors, binding lines which text editing programs fill in once the vectors have reached the desired size.
Only cricut fonts will have a true writing style.
